Starting the Year... Ready or Not!

I'm starting with this post because it's the most exciting. Pictures! Fun ideas!
.... oh, and because my room isn't ready for the kids to come on Monday.
*crickets*

Okay, so it's safe. And it's fairly decorated. Buuuuutttttt I'm a perfectionist and I don't like that I have a four foot band of white space at the top of my room. Granted, that's part of having really high ceilings. I am not going to clutter it up with a ton of stuff, but I definitely want to make it feel lived in.

The important thing is that I really thought about our daily routines and getting my kids settled. Those pieces are in place, and the rest will come (like my kidney table... that's still not here lol).

So, for now, here's my space. I took these pics around 10:30 pm last night so they are a little blurry. Enjoy!

You can see that I have supplies sitting out to show where students to put their community supplies when we unload everything on Monday. That's not a normal look for us, lol. I need to figure out a good use of those bulletin boards!
It's hard to tell in this picture, but the navy curtains really change the whole room. You can see in this picture how my drawer carts work. Each student gets a skinny drawer and a big drawer. They are going to keep their pencil boxes, crayons, and supplies in the skinny drawers. They are going to keep their folders and notebooks in the big drawers. My Super Improvers chart hangs on that wall. I was racking my brain on how to make this easily changeable/manageable and I ended up making colored cards that slide into sheet protectors glued on the wall. I think it will work out well!
My bookshelves for the class library block the nook where the sink and cabinets are. They weren't exactly safe for students to be in (chemicals and things) and I keep my mini fridge back there, so I like having it closed off. The easel moves so it's almost like a door.

This is my sink area.... where I am currently hiding all the things that I didn't have time to deal with (despite working from 3 to 9 every night this week after PD). Shhhhhhhhh.......
My class rules (WBT) and hanging between the windows by my floor lamp. I had all of these kids last year in enrichment, so they already know my rules and just have to review them. That's nice on the first day!
I still have four short bookcase to put together underneath the window sills, but for now the boxes are leaning in their places. I still need to get more bins and boxes to help organize.
This is one of my creepy, creepy chandeliers. They are supposed to have fairy tale creatures on them, but it's mostly werewolves and witches. *Shudder* I need to find some way to make these less scary. Bonus - if I put bulbs in them, they work!
My library is a HOT MESS. Fortunately, I have some middle school aides each day that can organize and label it.

Ignore the chair - it's going to someone else' class. I have my emergency bag and hall passes hanging right by the door on the right, and my portable score board for WBT hanging on the left. I also have some of my class job items hanging by our command center.
My desk/small group area. This area needs some love. The bulletin board behind the file cabinet will hold things I need, the one with the flag will hold items we need to reference for small groups, and I'm not sure what will go on the square one yet.
This sad area needs some love. It's going to be one of my priority this week.

I hope you enjoyed touring my classroom! I will post updates as I make progress.
