Organizing a New Room

Last year when I moved to my school, I painted my room and settled in and loved where I was. When they announced that I was changing positions, they announced that I was also changing rooms. I have to say, when it comes to rooms, I got a great one! The previous teacher (who moved upstairs) painted it so well that I didn't have to, and it's got so many perks. Here are some in progress pics after moving most of my furniture in. Read on, because my room has lots of hidden surprises :)

This is the half of my room that is an oval. Yep, you read that right! At first it was a huge design challenge, but now I've decided to put my desk/kidney table there, so it's working out nicely. The left door is my own, personal bathroom (!!!), and the other two doors are storage closets. I put up the chevron fabric but I still need to trim out the bulletin boards and add some displays. I also have some low bookshelves to go on these walls.

This is my kitchen/storage area. I'm going to put two more bookshelves with our class library next to the one you see so that it is mostly closed off from students. The sink works and there is a ton of storage. I will eventually paint this nook some happy color, but with everything else is taking priority at the moment.

To the left of my kitchen/class library nook is my main teaching space, carpet area, lateral filing cabinets, and storage bins that will hold our non-teacher centers. I will put my center posters on this wall. It's kind of an awkward space so I'm hoping it ends up more functional as the year progresses.

In lieu of a projector, I have a mounted TV for displaying things to students. Because this whiteboard isn't magnetic, and because the room is shaped weird, this area is best served as my computer area. I will have three computers and two iPads, although I'm working on a Donor's Choose grant for some Chromebooks and trying to fundraise as well. I'd like to eventually replace all my computers for Chromebooks because they work better for our purposes in class. I put my birthday cupcakes on the door that stays closed (I got the file here!).

This is going to be my kidney table/teacher desk area. I'm using two open-front student desks and plastic storage for my desk items, which seems to be perfect for everything I need to keep close at hand. I'm going to put a couple of medium bookshelves under the bulletin board on the left (that return air vent is no longer used so I can cover it up). With my chair pushed in, I can still easily access the storage closet that connects to the room next to mine.

Finally, these are my doors. I quickly put up some fabric before I left last week so they still need a TON of work but I love how happy and bright they are already. I guess it bodes well that my brand new principal already calls it the room with the blue doors ;)

I'll be back in next week with my husband to help me bring a lot more and work on some more organized touches. School starts for us in three weeks, so I need to get on it!
